This policy explains what the PDF Docket Android app does with your information. It covers the app com.sahilchalke.pdfdocket on Google Play.
Who we are
PDF Docket is made by Sahil Chalke, an individual developer in India. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Sahil Chalke.
For privacy questions, requests and complaints, email pdfdocket.support@gmail.com.
The short version
- Your documents stay on your phone. Scanning, compressing, reading text, ID card layouts, QR codes and every PDF tool run on the phone itself.
- The app never uploads your files. We have no server, and we never receive your documents, photos, scanned text or file names.
- There is no account and no sign-in.
- The app shows ads from Google AdMob, but only when your phone is online. Google's ad and machine learning libraries in the app send some device and usage data to Google. The sections below list what that data is.
- If you uninstall the app, everything it stored on your phone is removed.
What the app accesses and why
Camera. Used to read QR codes and barcodes live, and to take a photo in the Photo & Sign tool. Document scanning opens Google's document scanner, which shows its own camera screen. Android asks for your permission before the app first uses the camera, and you can turn it off in your phone's settings at any time.
Files and photos you choose. When you import a PDF or image, pick a photo from your gallery, or share a file into PDF Docket from another app, the app reads only that file. It uses the Android file picker and photo picker for this, so it does not ask for access to all your photos or storage.
Network. The app uses the internet for two things only:
- Ads, and the Google consent form for ads.
- Links inside a QR code. If you tap "Open link", the link opens in your browser, outside the app.
Google's machine learning library (ML Kit) also sends usage and performance data to Google, as described under "Google ML Kit" below. Your documents never go over the network.
Advertising ID. The ads library reads your phone's advertising ID to serve and measure ads. You can reset or delete it in your phone settings (see "Your ad choices").
What happens on your phone only
All of this happens on your device and nothing from it is sent to us:
- Documents and scans. Files you create are saved in a private folder inside the app. Other apps cannot read that folder.
- Text recognition (OCR). The Extract text tool reads text from your photos and PDFs on the phone, using Google ML Kit's on-device model. You decide whether to copy or share the text.
- ID card type detection. When you scan an ID card, the app reads the card's text on the phone to guess the card type, so it can name your file (for example "PAN card"). Only the type is kept. The app does not store or log the card's text or number.
- QR and barcodes. Codes are decoded on the phone.
- Settings. Your theme, language, default compress size, scan format, haptics choice and a few one-time hints are stored on the phone. The app also stores two ad counters on the phone: how many tasks you finished since the last full-screen ad, and when a 24-hour ad-free period ends.
When you choose to share a file (for example to WhatsApp) or save a copy to your phone, that copy goes where you send it. That app or location then has its own privacy rules.
Third-party services and what they collect
The app includes Google libraries that send some data to Google. We do not receive this data, and we cannot see it linked to you.
Google AdMob and Google's consent form (UMP)
Ads are loaded only when your phone is online. Where the law requires consent (for example in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland), Google's consent form appears before any ads load. According to Google's disclosure for the Google Mobile Ads SDK, it collects and shares:
- your IP address, which can be used to estimate your general location (not your precise GPS location)
- your advertising ID, app set ID and other device identifiers
- how you interact with ads, such as app launches, taps and video views
- diagnostic data, such as app launch time, hang rate and energy use
Google uses this data for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention. Google decides how it uses this data under its own policies. On newer Android versions, Google's ads may also use Android's built-in ad privacy features, which you control in your phone's settings.
Google ML Kit and Google Play services
Text recognition and barcode reading use ML Kit models that are built into the app. Document scanning uses Google's document scanner, which runs inside Google Play services on your phone. Your images are processed on the phone. According to Google's ML Kit data disclosure, ML Kit sends Google:
- device information (manufacturer, model, Android version)
- app information (package name and version)
- an installation identifier
- performance and usage data, such as how long a task took, input and output sizes, feature versions and error codes
Google uses this for diagnostics and usage analytics and says it does not share it with third parties.

Your ad choices
- Consent form. If Google's consent form applies where you live, you can change your choice later in the app under Settings > Ads > Ad privacy choices. The app shows this row only when Google says it is required.
- Advertising ID. On Android 12 and later you can delete your advertising ID under Settings > Privacy > Ads (the exact menu name varies by phone). On older versions you can reset it or opt out of ads personalization in the same place.
- Ad-free day. In Settings > Ads you can watch one short video to turn ads off for 24 hours.
- Go offline. The tools work without the internet, and no ads load while you are offline.
Storage and retention
- Your documents stay in the app's private folder until you delete them. You can delete one file at a time, or use Settings > Delete all documents.
- Temporary copies from scans, imports and tools are deleted when a task finishes. The app also removes leftovers older than 24 hours each time it starts, and you can clear them any time in Settings > Clear temporary files.
- The app turns off Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer for its data, so your documents are not copied to a Google backup.
- Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored. Copies you saved to your phone or shared with other apps stay where you put them.
- We keep nothing, because we never receive your data. Google keeps the data its libraries collect according to its own policies.
- If you email us, we keep your email only as long as we need to answer you.
Security
- Your files are kept in storage that only PDF Docket can read.
- The Protect PDF tool encrypts a PDF with AES-256 using a password you choose (at least 8 characters). The app does not save the password.
- Screenshots and screen recording are blocked while the ID card, Sign PDF, Protect PDF and Unlock PDF screens are open. Those screens are also hidden in the recent apps view.
- Data that Google's libraries send is encrypted in transit.
No method of storage is perfectly safe. Keep your phone locked to protect the files in the app.
Children
PDF Docket is not made for children. On Google Play we set its audience to people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly process data about children. If you believe a child is using the app and want help, email us.
Your rights
We do not hold any personal data about you, because the app never sends us anything. You can still contact us at any time.
India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023). You have the right to ask what personal data is processed about you, to ask for it to be corrected or erased, to nominate someone to act for you, and to have a complaint handled. Send requests and complaints to pdfdocket.support@gmail.com. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
European Economic Area, UK and Switzerland (GDPR). You have the right to access, correct, delete and move your data, to object to or limit its use, and to withdraw consent at any time. For ads, Google asks for your consent through its form, and you can change it under Settings > Ads > Ad privacy choices. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
For data that Google collects through its libraries, Google is best placed to answer. You can manage it at https://myadcenter.google.com and through the links in Google's Privacy Policy.
We aim to reply to every request within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version at the same address and update the effective date at the top. If a change affects how your data is handled, we will also mention it in the app's release notes on Google Play.
